Using subtle tones of oils on canvas, Scottish-born McAlpine Miller creates the illusion of transparencies within his works. The artworks appear almost as collages, or digital works, translated through the traditional medium of oil paint; linking the artist’s expert traditional skills to a highly contemporary vision.
“A reality that is so far-fetched that it becomes a busy blur of objects which portray the idea of an energy-laden consumer society...”
McAlpine Miller has gained a popular following for in the U.K, New York and Hong Kong for his original paintings featuring beautiful women overlaid with illusionary colourful nostalgic imagery. He builds complex themes and narrative into each piece, each element contributing subtly and often in unexpected ways to the composition.
McAlpine Miller, a Scottish Arts graduate, displays all the characteristics of his home nation – tenacity, determination and a wry sense of humour. In 2011, he was chosen as the artist in residence at The Savoy Hotel, London, and his collection "A Time For Reflection" hangs in the iconic Thames Foyer.
