"My work explores the relationship between landscape and emotion. I draw inspiration from the wild, multi-layered landscapes of northern Scotland, where I build on direct observation, memories and emotional responses. My watercolour paintings invite the viewer to reflect and explore their own experiences and emotional connection to these precious places."
Steve lives in Tarland in rural Aberdeenshire. He has always been passionate about the natural world and initially studied ecology at University, leading to 30 years of work as a research scientist. He retired early from this career in 2019. Since then he has focused on his expressive watercolour paintings.
He completed the Portfolio course at Bridge House Art in Ullapool in 2021 and now spends his time out in the field or in his studio. He has exhibited in galleries across Scotland and has had pieces selected for annual shows of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour in Edinburgh, the Royal Watercolour Society in London, and the Royal Institute for Painters in Watercolour in London.
