Julie Ann’s artworks centre first and foremost on light. Her abstracted interpretations of landscapes, seascapes, underwater scenes, and far-off nebulae are filled with light breaking through darkness, bringing clarity and colour.
In capturing moments that inspire her, Julie Ann reimagines each scene as the hidden beauties that are experienced on a spiritual level as well as visual:
"Life is fast and fierce. Sadly, a lot of very pure moments of what I call 'soul visions' are lost in the rush. My paintings capture these secret hidden beauties that seem to drain away almost as soon as we see them. Like when we are driving along and we see a sudden fabulous view that is breathtaking, but then the moment has passed. I’m inspired by not only capturing them but inventing them too. Using my imagination, I create my own ‘soul visions’, and inspire others to remember theirs.”
After growing up in the north of England, Julie Ann travelled the world, finding adventures as she went. She worked as a catwalk model in Isreal, an actress in California, and travelled across several countries in Eastern Europe before returning to the UK and setting up an art studio.
She first worked in the Lake District, taking inspiration from the hills, wide open spaces and the lakes themselves, before moving to Dorset and finding new vistas to explore through her delicate yet passionate use of colour, texture and movement.
