Born and raised in Essex, Jessie would describe herself as ”not a typical Essex girl”. She had an unusual beginning as an artist; although she studied art at college, she started out as a tattoo artist, “falling into” the career after taking up a chance to be an apprentice.
Having garnered much admiration as a tattoo artist, Jessie recently transitioned her medium from skin to canvas, picking up her brushes and returning to more traditional fine art with a fresh new twist. She enjoys experimenting within her creative practice, combining a texture-heavy, organic technique with a bright pop-art style.
Cartoon characters, famous brands, and vintage favourites are all featured in Jessie’s work; she likes to keep things moving, letting her work evolve on a daily basis.
Jessie says, “I’m used to working in a kind of here and there style, and I guess that’s how I paint. I love working with something super obvious and changing it into how I see it... a change here and there... see how we go.
“I use anything to paint with, rulers seem to be a go to at the moment but just anything I can get my hands onto really, snapped bits of wood, palette knifes, pens, spray paint.”
