FRANCISCO SANTANA
Having pursued art from an early age, Francisco Santana has built an exemplary reputation for his ability to evoke the colour, calm, and character of the marinas that have entranced him since early in his career.
Francisco uses a loose, expressive style to capture his signature scenes of moored boats in calm waters. Although his style has a carefree and spontaneous feeling to it, he is able to meticulously balance the broad blues of the water against the bright colours of the boats. The artist’s point of view is brought forward into the water, creating the sense that the viewer is surrounded by water as they gaze out to the soft horizon.
These works are recognisable for their playful brushstrokes, ranging from broad and gestural to briskly precise. Francisco’s style can also be identified through his use of fresh, warm tones throughout his palette, bright enough to bring light and heat to the expansive blues of the sea.
Francisco was born in Valencia, Spain in 1958, and studied at the famous Fine Art Schools in Valencia. A professional artist from the point of his graduation onwards, now with decades of experience, he is known worldwide for his marine artwork.
